(Salt Lake City, Utah – October 27, 2024) The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) is pleased to announce an enlightening session titled "Current and Emerging Cyber Security Threats in Healthcare, Plus Staying Safe Online," featuring Errol Weiss, Chief Security Officer at Health-ISAC. This presentation will take place on October 28, 2024, as part of the AHIMA24 conference in Salt Lake City.
In recent years, cybersecurity threats within the healthcare sector have escalated alarmingly. According to the HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR), the website listing healthcare industry data breaches has documented 5,558 events affecting nearly 438 million records of protected health information (PHI) since 2009, averaging over 86,000 records exposed every day. This session aims to provide healthcare professionals with a comprehensive overview of the current threat landscape, emphasizing that understanding these threats is pivotal for bolstering the industry's defenses.
Weiss will cover a range of pressing topics, including the rise of cybercrime, ransomware trends, social engineering tactics, and the threats posed by Generative AI and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) bypass attacks. He will also discuss the impact of nation-state-sponsored cyber-attacks and geopolitical conflicts on healthcare delivery. Attendees will gain insights into what to watch for to avoid being caught off guard by these burgeoning threats.
Participants will receive a copy of the Annual Cyber Threat Landscape Report, designed to aid organizations in influencing budget and investment decisions regarding cybersecurity initiatives. The presentation will conclude with practical recommendations and resources that attendees can utilize for both personal and organizational cybersecurity improvements.
