To improve health outcomes in pediatrics, we must understand what is happening in children’s day-to-day lives outside of the healthcare they are receiving. Those circumstances, referred to as the social determinants of health (SDOH), significantly affect individual and community health and healthcare outcomes. When SDOH data is appropriately collected, used, and securely shared, the entire healthcare team can gain insight into various elements that make up a child’s medical and non-medical story, allowing them to work on improving that individual's overall health and well-being.
