AHIMA is seeking qualified candidates who are passionate about driving the profession forward and making a real impact on the future of Health Information. Descriptions, duties, and qualifications for each of these elected positions are available in the 2026 Handbook for Elected Positions. All terms begin on January 1, 2027. Applications are due March 31, 2026.
Unfortunately, student members and non-members are ineligible to apply.

Open Elected Positions
Applications will be accepted through March 31, 2026, for the following positions:
- President/Chair-elect (one position)
- Directors for the Board of Directors (three positions)
- House of Delegates Speaker-elect (1 position)
- Commissioners on the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) (three positions)
- Council for Excellence in Education (CEE) Members (one position)
Application Process
AHIMA accepts applications for open elected positions through March 31 for terms that begin the following January (e.g., to be considered for a term that begins in 2027, the deadline for applications would be March 31, 2026).
All position applications are reviewed by the AHIMA Nominating Committee, which then makes recommendations and creates a ballot of candidates.
In July and August of each year, elections take place, and eligible AHIMA members are invited to cast their vote.
How to Apply
Submission Deadline: March 31, 2026, for a term that begins in 2027.
Your application package should include:
- Completed Elected Position Application Form:
- President/Chair-elect
- Directors for the Board of Directors
- House of Delegates Speaker-elect
- Commissioners on the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM)
- Council for Excellence in Education (CEE) Members - Two (2) letters of recommendation*
- Current Curriculum Vitae or Resume (in PDF format and less than 10 pages)
- Professional photo (current, professional headshot in JPG format; 200KB or smaller)
- Position Statement containing the reasons for seeking the position, qualifications, relevant experience, and vision for AHIMA. This summary should be no more than two paragraphs.
*The letters of recommendation must be in PDF format and contain signatures of authors. Members from the following AHIMA groups are not eligible to write letters of recommendation: Nominating Committee, Board of Directors, CCHIIM, CEE, candidate’s family members, or AHIMA staff.
- Former AHIMA staff are not eligible for candidacy consideration until 12 months after ending employment with AHIMA.
- As part of the application process, applicants may be asked to participate in an interview(s) with members of the AHIMA Nominating Committee and asked questions regarding the position, their qualifications, and the relevant competencies for the applied position.
- The application packet is valid for one year.
