Biography

Currently lives in Bangor, Maine with my husband, Al. I strongly believe in giving back to my community and have served six years on the School Committee, as well as the Maine State School Board, serving as President. I am serving in my 14th year on the Bangor City Council, twice as Mayor of Bangor. I volunteer and have sat on those boards. My professional included hands on patient care and administration at Northern Light EMMC hospital and physician practices, teaching and directing programs in Medical Assisting and Health Information Management at Husson College and Beal College both in Bangor. I currently sit on the Continuing Education Board and a past president of the AAMA. I work hard, and am dedicated.

AHIMA’s mission is empowering people to impact health®. What distinctive expertise and experience do you have to contribute to AHIMA’s mission?

In my many years of hands on patient care, practice administration and teaching at the college level, I always kept the patient at the center of focus. Every patient needs an advocate to navigate through the healthcare system of today. I was involved in new programs and initiatives surrounding this topic. Through education, collaboration and partnerships AHIMA will continue to fulfill this mission. As a Director I will always base my decisions on keeping all of the humans we represent at the center of my focus, and through global, forward thinking strategies will continue to support and enhance the mission of AHIMA.
