Membership Model FAQs
What are the goals for this new membership model?
What are the changes to membership types?
We are moving from the seven member types we previously offered to two, straightforward memberships: Professional and Student. Our New to AHIMA and New Graduate memberships will become Professional memberships. Premier, Emeritus, and Honorary member types will be membership statuses—read on to the next question for more information on membership statuses.
What does a membership status mean?
A membership status is an add-on to your membership type. You do not need to hold a membership status. We now offer three membership statuses: Premier, Emeritus, and Honorary.
Premier is a value-added status that costs an additional $64. Members who choose to upgrade to Premier will continue to have access to a wider range of benefits. Learn more about Premier benefits.
You can choose the Emeritus status if you are over the age of 65. This status provides you with a discount to your Professional membership dues, lowering their cost to $49. Learn more about the Emeritus membership status.
Honorary is an individual who has made a significant contribution to health information management science or has rendered distinguished service in the health information management profession or its related fields. Honorary membership may be awarded by the AHIMA Board of Directors.
What happens if I am in a member type that is no longer part of the new model?
You will be renewed as a Professional member. For example, if in 2021 you pay the current rate as a New to AHIMA, New Graduate, or Global membership, you will then pay the Professional member rate in 2022. Please see the table below. .
