Dr. Sunni D. Borghi is a distinguished healthcare executive with over three decades of experience leading transformative initiatives in health information management (HIM), data analytics, and organizational development. She has served on the board of directors for WSHIMA for three years as President-Elect (1 year) and President (2 years). She is currently serving as Sr. Director of Revenue Cycle - Health Information Management Operations overseeing five markets at Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Borghi’s oversight covers a team of more than 300 professionals, and she manages a multimillion-dollar budget. Her leadership has driven significant operational advancements, including the digitization of over three million records and the successful execution of a $4 million scanning project, which enhanced clinical efficiency and compliance.
At WSHIMA, she successfully implemented a new website, strategically redesigned to have a conference across three locations, and drove financial efficiencies by introducing a new month-over-month evaluation and decision-making process. Additionally, she worked with her Advocacy Director to introduce a new bill tracking system for advocacy work in Washington State and kicked off a project to launch a product page for WSHIMA to increase revenue. Her efforts resulted in a remarkable increase in gross revenue from conferences between 2022 and 2025.
Dr. Borghi’s expertise spans strategic planning, machine learning, artificial intelligence, regulatory compliance, and performance analytics. She is recognized for her ability to lead complex change management efforts, foster high-performing teams, and implement data-driven solutions that improve patient care and operational outcomes. Her work has consistently resulted in measurable improvements in compliance, accuracy, and cost savings across multiple healthcare systems.
In addition to her executive leadership, Dr. Borghi is a passionate educator. She serves as an online faculty and Team Lead at Southern New Hampshire University and teaches probability and statistics at Grand Canyon University. She has developed and led curriculum for HIM and IT programs, contributing to the advancement of future healthcare professionals.
Dr. Borghi holds a PhD in Information Technology Management, an MS in Organizational Psychology and Executive Coaching, and an MBA in Business Administration and IT Management. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) and currently serves as President of the Washington State Health Information Management Association (WSHIMA) for the 2024-2025 presidency.
