Biography

Christine Tomas is the Academic Program Coordinator for the Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology (HIT) and the Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Information Management (HIM) programs at Arapahoe Community College in Colorado. With more than 25 years of experience in Health Information Management, Christine brings a strong foundation in education, accreditation, program development, and leadership.

A second-generation HIM professional, Christine is proud to carry on a family legacy that includes her mother, uncle, brothers, and now her oldest son—all of whom are involved in the HIM field. She is deeply committed to advancing the profession through accessible, high-quality education and student-centered innovation.

Christine recently earned her master's in project management with a specialization in Organizational Leadership and Change Management. She has led the successful launch of ACC’s BAS HIM program and is currently overseeing the development of a new Oncology Data Specialist Certificate to meet emerging workforce needs.

Christine is passionate about aligning academic programs with evolving industry standards, supporting student achievement, and fostering professional growth. Her leadership philosophy is grounded in lifelong learning, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence—values that align closely with CCHIIM’s mission.

If elected, Christine will bring her experience, integrity, and vision to support CCHIIM’s ongoing work in maintaining the relevance and rigor of HIM credentials in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape.

Explain how your professional skills, abilities, and strengths complement the CCHIIM mission?

With over 25 years of experience in Health Information Management, I bring a strong background in HIM education, accreditation management, program development, and leadership. As the Program Director of Health Information Management Education at Arapahoe Community College, I have overseen the successful launch of the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in HIM and currently overseeing the development of the upcoming Oncology Data Specialist Certificate program, ensuring alignment with industry standards and third-party accreditation. My ability to innovate, foster collaboration, and lead change aligns directly with CCHIIM's mission to assure the competency of professionals in health informatics and information management. My leadership philosophy is grounded in lifelong learning, integrity, and commitment to excellence, making me an ideal candidate to further CCHIIM's objectives.
