Kelly Canter, BA, RHIT, CCS, has expertise in coding and compliance specializing in ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS coding, utilization review and data analytics. Her experience includes conducting coding, medical necessity and documentation audits, providing clinician and coding staff education, revenue cycle management, and hospital quality incentive programs. Currently, she manages the subject matter experts responsible for the development of Optum360’s Clinical Classifier Natural Language Processing (NLP) software and maintenance of Optum360’s Computer Assisted Coding (CAC) software.

Kelly has presented at multiple national conventions on a variety of coding, compliance and management topics in addition to authoring numerous books and articles. She is an active member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the Michigan Health Information Management Association (MHIMA). She has served as President of the Lake Huron Michigan Health Information Management Association (LHMHIMA) in both 2017 and 2018.
