John Young, RHIA, CHPS, CPHIMS, is a Health Information Management Consultant for the Hospital Division of Louisville, Kentucky-based Kindred Healthcare.  In this role, he directs HIM operations in Kindred’s transitional care hospitals across the United States.  Previous employers include Conifer Health Solutions, Norton Healthcare (Louisville, KY), and Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital (Lexington, KY).

In addition to HIM operational leadership, John has expertise in the interpretation and application of the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation, and The Joint Commission Accreditation Standards.  His work experience also includes corporate compliance, revenue cycle management, and master patient index management.

He is experienced in numerous healthcare delivery settings including short-term acute care hospitals, long-term acute care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and skilled nursing/sub-acute services.

John is a Past President of the Kentucky Health Information Management Association and has served on the Board of Directors for his state and regional HIM associations in various capacities.  At the national level, he has served on AHIMA’s Privacy and Security Practice Council, EHR Documentation Integrity Practice Council, and LGBTQ workgroup.

John holds undergraduate degrees in Health Information Technology and Health Information Administration from Alfred State College (SUNY) and the University of Cincinnati.  In addition to AHIMA’s RHIA and CHPS credentials, he also holds the Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) through HIMSS.
