Position Statement Question

Where do you think your skills, abilities, and strengths fit in with the CCHIIM mission, to assure the competency of professionals practicing health informatics and information management worldwide?

Position Statement Answer

I'm a leader within the coding and HIM profession. I’m a member in good standing with AHIMA since 1992. I hold RHIT and CCS credentials and attended an item writing seminar for the CCS. I have held many volunteer positions within the local and state HIM associations such as president of Northwest Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association(NWPHIMA), membership chairperson for the Western Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association (WPHIMA) and treasurer for the Pennsylvania Health Information Management Association (PHIMA).

My dedication to the coding and HIM profession is evident in my vast volunteer positions along with my professional experiences. I've been a coder, supervisor, vendor, and I’m currently working as a senior coding manager at UPMC, which is a large multi-hospital association.

I encourage employees and co-workers to obtain a credential from AHIMA, sharing that their HIM knowledge, respect, and salary will all be enhanced. I have encouraged colleagues to volunteer and permitted an employee to attend a CCS item writing session last year. My skills, experience, and dedication make me a strong candidate to serve as a CCHIIM Commissioner. I would welcome the challenge and would bring my spirit of dedication to the position.
